Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. traces its roots to the company started in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita. In 1935, the forerunner of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. was established to carry on the work of the initial wiring products business. Sharing the same roots is Panasonic Corporation (PC).
Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. operates in the six business sectors of lighting products, information equipment and wiring products, home appliances, building products, electronic and plastic materials, and automation controls. Our products are used in houses, buildings, commercial and public facilities, and factories to support communications, industry and everyday living and working activities.
Since April 2004, The company has pursued collaborative business ties with PC as part of the revitalized Panasonic Group. As of Jun 30, 2007, Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. was active in 35 countries and regions worldwide, conducting operations through 88 companies with a total of 133 business sites. Customers in more than 100 countries are now avid users of our wide range of products. In fiscal 2007, Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. posted overseas sales of more than ¥234.3 billion, accounting for 14.1% of consolidated net sales. As of March 31, 2007, our overseas workforce totaled 17,888 employees.

On April 23, 2007, the company acquired 80% of all issued unlisted shares in Anchor Electricals Private Limited (AEPL) for approximately ¥50 billion. Established in 1963 and headquartered in Mumbai, India, AEPL is one of India's largest manufacturers of electrical construction materials. The company has captured the country's leading share in its mainstay wiring products and boasts a powerful brand and sales network. This acquisition will be the catalyst for full-scale expansion of our wiring devices business in India, a country expected to see long-term economic growth.
